Three Learn To Swim Levels for School Aged Children

Carlile’s School Age swimming lessons are held after school and on weekends. Classes are tailored to meet the needs of older children, and their ability to focus for longer periods. The small class sizes ensure each child can learn through teacher demonstrations and corrections, but experience also shows that children learn well by watching their peers.

Your School-Aged Swimmer Can Learn

Submerging And Floating

For children just beginning, or those a little tentative, happily learning these skills are an important step.

To Swim Unaided

Moving through the water, taking a breath, and going again, is a key safety skill. It’s an important step in a child’s development.

Back and Front Kicking

Fast kicking, with and without a kick board, is the beginnings of swimming both freestyle and backstroke.

Torpedos

Torpedos are lots of fun and important in learning to streamline. Head down, arms straight, fast kicks, and off they go!

Big Arms

The beginnings of freestyle and learning to breathe, while bringing their arms over, is an exciting and important step!

Backstroke

The first signs of backstroke, with fast kicks and arms coming over, is another exciting progression.

If your child accidentally falls into a pool, chances are they will not be wearing floaties. They give a false sense of security and make learning to swim correctly more difficult.

We constantly monitor and address your child’s progress and provide regular feedback. Our Parent Portal also has videos of classes, so you know what we are working on.

Sydney’s Number One Swimming School

Carlile has been at the cutting edge of learn to swim for more than half a century, the pioneers of swimming schools who are constantly refining their approach.

Children learning to swim are nurtured as they develop the skills to progress happily and confidently. Starfish classes have a maximum of four students, while Goldfish and Dolphin have a maximum of five.

Classes are $28.75 each on a weekday and $30.75 on weekends, paid monthly (there are also family and multi lesson discounts available). Find out more here.

We had a great time at this place! The teachers are absolutely fantastic—big shout out to Tash and Jack, our wonderful instructors. The reception staff are super helpful, especially Jackie and Liv, who assist us with all our admin queries and patiently guide us through the app. The supervisors keep a close eye on the kids' progress and let us parents know when they’re ready to move up to the next level. A big bonus for us is the free carpark; being in the industrial area, there’s plenty of space available! 🥰

Just wanted to give the whole team at Carlile Lane Cove West a 5 star review. Our 3 children are all here now getting swimming lessons and we have already seen a significant improvement in All 3 in a short period of time. We have been to a few swim schools over the years around the north shore and definitely rate this system as the best for us. The staff behind the desk are always happy and polite, the 3 instructors Tash, Manfred and Gordon are doing a super job with our kids. Even Dan from the assessing team is friendly and very observant watching the kids strokes all the time and always approachable. Very happy family at Lane cove Carlile.
